On Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the Athens Olympic Sports Center, the city’s strongest music festival returns with a sensational concert experience.
The captivating Ghost of Papa Emeritus IV and the Nameless Ghouls come to our country as part of the Imperatour, to prove to us why they are considered the most popular metal band of recent years. After all, their declared fans include Dave Grohl and James Hetfield, while they entered the average American home by performing on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Beyond the sui generis theatrics, the mystery surrounding their identity and the debates over whether they are metal after all, the Swedes at the end of the day play an excellent feel-good musical idiom that speaks to both Generation Z and those who grew up in glorious ’80s. We worship.
They are joined by the epic Candlemass, a historic band with fanatical fans and one of the Big Four of doom metal, who will join their compatriots creating the ultimate metal line-up of this summer at AthensRocks Festival.
GHOST
The Swedes, with the charismatic Tobias Forge at the helm, have rightfully managed to become the most talked about band of the hard rock/metal scene in just a few years. Their eccentric stage presence on the one hand and repeated successful releases on the other, have made Ghost the absolute rulers of the biggest festivals worldwide.
Papa Emeritus was introduced to us in 2010 with the band’s first release, Opus Eponymous. The Infestissumam, the Supreme Threat, arrives three years later to overwhelm Tobias’ creation, with the sequel coming like a sweeping storm. The three albums that followed led Ghost to their biggest successes and awards. Meliora in 2015, Prequelle in 2018 and Impera in 2022 are the three hits from the Swedish icons. With these three releases, Ghost took the top spot. Among the dozens of awards they received, there was a GRAMMY award with the song CIRICE, while last year, Call me Little Sunshine from their latest release Impera (2022) was nominated for another GRAMMY award. Today, more mature and majestic than ever, they are ready to lead the biggest music festival in Athens.
CANDLEMASS
With a career spanning nearly 40 years, doom metal legends Candlemass return to Athens and AthensRocks Festival 2023. After their sensational 2019 show in Athens, the band from Stockholm returns to the place that has written great pages in its concert history. From their first appearance on Greek soil, way back in 1989, until the most recent one, Candlemass never ceases to excite us with the inexhaustible energy they bring to the stage. This is one of the most influential bands in doom metal, while the long-awaited return of Johan Längqvist on vocals, turns back the clock to the release of the monumental Epicus Doomicus. With appearances at the biggest festivals in Europe, such as Hellfest and Graspop, they couldn’t be missing from this year’s AthensRocks Festival line-up.
TYPHUS
Typhus is one of the most rising bands of the domestic metal scene. With thrash/speed influences from Megadeth, Testament and Annihilator, they started in 2009 as Nuclear Terror.
Four years later and having acquired their own explosive style, they start to appear around Greece together with great artists, such as Possessed and Warrel Dane of Nevermore. As Typhus, in 2020 they are releasing their first full-length album entitled Mass Produced Perfection, which received very positive reviews both in Greece and abroad. Two years after its release, recognition came for the band with a coveted spot on the lineup of the biggest metal festival in all of Europe: Typhus became one of the few Greek bands to play live at Wacken 2022, alongside some of the most historic music bands such as Judas Priest and Slipknot.

Την Κυριακή 25 Ιουνίου 2023, στο Ολυμπιακό Αθλητικό Κέντρο Αθηνών, τo πιο δυνατό μουσικό φεστιβάλ της πόλης επιστρέφει με μια συγκλονιστική συναυλιακή εμπειρία.
Οι καθηλωτικοί Ghost του Papa Emeritus IV και των Nameless Ghouls έρχονται στη χώρα μας στα πλαίσια του Imperatour, για να μας αποδείξουν περίτρανα γιατί θεωρούνται το δημοφιλέστερο metal συγκρότημα των τελευταίων ετών. Άλλωστε, στους δηλωμένους φαν τους ανήκουν οι Dave Grohl και James Hetfield, ενώ μπήκαν στο μέσο αμερικανικό σπίτι παίζοντας στο Jimmy Kimmel Show. Πέρα από τη sui generis θεατρικότητα, το μυστήριο γύρω από την ταυτότητά τους και τις συζητήσεις για το αν τελικά είναι metal, οι Σουηδοί στο τέλος της ημέρας παίζουν ένα εξαιρετικό feel-good μουσικό ιδίωμα που μιλάει τόσο στη Generation Z όσο και σε όσους μεγάλωσαν στα ένδοξα ‘80s. Προσκυνούμε.
Μαζί τους οι επικοί Candlemass, ιστορικό συγκρότημα με φανατικούς οπαδούς και ένα από τα Βig Four του doom metal, οι οποίοι θα πλαισιώσουν τους συμπατριώτες τους δημιουργώντας το απόλυτο metal line-up του φετινού καλοκαιριού στο AthensRocks Festival.

GHOST

Οι Σουηδοί, με τον χαρισματικό Tobias Forge στο τιμόνι, έχουν δικαίως καταφέρει μέσα σε λίγα μόλις χρόνια να γίνουν το πιο πολυσυζητημένο συγκρότημα της hard rock/metal σκηνής. Η εκκεντρική σκηνική παρουσία τους από τη μια και οι απανωτές επιτυχημένες κυκλοφορίες από την άλλη, έχουν κάνει τους Ghost τους απόλυτους κυρίαρχους στα μεγαλύτερα φεστιβάλ παγκοσμίως.
Ο Papa Emeritus μας συστήθηκε το 2010 με την πρώτη κυκλοφορία του συγκροτήματος, Opus Eponymous. Το Infestissumam, η Υπέρτατη Απειλή, έρχεται τρία χρόνια αργότερα για να γιγαντώσει το δημιούργημα του Tobias, με τη συνέχεια να έρχεται σαν σαρωτική καταιγίδα. Τα τρία άλμπουμ που ακολούθησαν οδήγησαν τους Ghost στις μεγαλύτερές τους επιτυχίες και βραβεύσεις. Το Meliora το 2015, το Prequelle το 2018 και το Impera το 2022, αποτελούν τα τρία απανωτά χτυπήματα από τους Σουηδούς icons. Με τις τρεις αυτές κυκλοφορίες, οι Ghost κατέκτησαν την κορυφή. Ανάμεσα στις δεκάδες διακρίσεις που απέσπασαν, ήρθε και ένα βραβείο GRAMMY με το τραγούδι CIRICE, ενώ τη χρονιά που μας πέρασε, το Call me Little Sunshine από την τελευταία τους κυκλοφορία Impera (2022) ήταν υποψήφιο για ακόμα ένα βραβείο GRAMMY. Σήμερα, πιο ώριμοι και μεγαλοπρεπείς από ποτέ, είναι έτοιμοι να ηγηθούν του μεγαλύτερου μουσικού φεστιβάλ της Αθήνας.

CANDLEMASS

Με μια καριέρα σχεδόν 40 χρόνων, οι θρύλοι του doom metal Candlemass επιστρέφουν στην Αθήνα και το AthensRocks Festival 2023. Μετά τη συγκλονιστική τους εμφάνιση το 2019 στην Αθήνα, το συγκρότημα από τη Στοκχόλμη επιστρέφει στο μέρος που έχει γράψει σπουδαίες σελίδες στη συναυλιακή του ιστορία. Από την πρώτη τους εμφάνιση επί ελληνικού εδάφους, το μακρινό 1989, μέχρι και την πιο πρόσφατη, οι Candlemass δεν παύουν να μας ξεσηκώνουν με την αστείρευτη ενέργεια που βγάζουν στη σκηνή. Πρόκειται για ένα από τα πιο επιδραστικά συγκροτήματα στο doom metal, ενώ η πολυαναμενόμενη επιστροφή του Johan Längqvist στα φωνητικά, γυρίζει το χρόνο πίσω στην κυκλοφορία του μνημειώδους Epicus Doomicus. Με εμφανίσεις στα μεγαλύτερα φεστιβάλ της Ευρώπης, όπως Hellfest και Graspop, δεν θα μπορούσαν να λείπουν από το φετινό line-up του AthensRocks Festival.

TYPHUS

Οι Typhus είναι ένα από τα πιο ανερχόμενα συγκροτήματα της εγχώριας metal σκηνής. Με thrash/speed επιρροές από Megadeth, Testament και Annihilator, ξεκίνησαν το 2009 ως Nuclear Terror.
Τέσσερα χρόνια αργότερα και έχοντας αποκτήσει το δικό τους εκρηκτικό στυλ, αρχίζουν να εμφανίζονται ανά την Ελλάδα μαζί με σπουδαίους καλλιτέχνες, οπως οι Possessed και ο Warrel Dane των Nevermore. Ως Typhus, πλέον, το 2020 κυκλοφορούν την πρώτη τους ολοκληρωμένη δισκογραφική δουλειά με τίτλο Mass Produced Perfection, το οποίο έτυχε θετικότατων reviews τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και το εξωτερικό. Δύο χρόνια μετά την κυκλοφορία του, ήρθε η αναγνώριση για το συγκρότημα με μια πολυπόθητη θέση στο lineup του μεγαλύτερου metal φεστιβάλ σε ολόκληρη την Ευρώπη: Οι Typhus έγιναν μία από τις ελάχιστες ελληνικές μπάντες που έπαιξαν ζωντανά στο Wacken 2022, μαζί με μερικά από τα ιστορικότερα συγκροτήματα της μουσικής όπως οι Judas Priest και οι Slipknot.
