Brian Eno and Roger Εno - 4 August 2021 - Acropolis, Athens (GR)
Brian and Roger Eno are to stage their first ever live performance together, at the internationally recognised UNESCO World Heritage site, the Acropolis in Athens. This truly unique event will take place in front of a live audience as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival 2021 on the 4th of August.
Both brothers have long, impressive careers as artists. They complement each other with their different approaches to music, and have regularly recording together since 1983. They first collaborated with Daniel Lanois on the soundtrack to For All Mankind, Al Reinert’s epic documentary on the Apollo moon landing and released as the highly acclaimed album, Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks. They have also contributed to soundtracks for Dune (1984), Opera (1987), The Jacket (2005), Brazilian film, O Nome da Morte (2017) and were nominated for a Bafta award for their score to Danny Boyle’s TV series, Mr. Wroe’s Virgins (1993).
In 2020 the duo released their first full collaboration album, Mixing Colours on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. It has received very enthusiastic reviews around the world and was followed by a 6 track EP, Luminous later in the same year.
At the Herodeion (at the base of the Acropolis) we will enjoy a spectacular concert with the two brothers creating atmospheric musical landscapes. It is also one of the very rare occasions that Brian Eno has ever performed live.
Praise for Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks:
“An album intended to transform weightlessness into a kind of spiritual exaltation. ‘Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks’ limns an eternity without a heaven.” Pitchfork
“…celestial soundscape classic… still otherworldly, yet strangely human.” Rolling Stone
“Creating sonic landscapes that capture a wide range of deeply felt interior resonances to our ideas about space.” NPR
Praise for Mixing Colours:
“Contemplative, calming and really rather beautiful, this is the kind of music that creates an inner world you won’t want to leave. As the world collapses, it’s hard to imagine a better way to self-soothe than immersing yourself in Mixing Colours” The Times ★★★★★
“Elegant and haunting” Mojo
“Often poignant, always beautiful, sometimes a little disconcerting, but distinguished, even at their most abstract” The Quietus
