Release Athens 2025 welcomes Gojira on Saturday, July 19th, at Water Square (Plateia Nerou). One of the leading bands of modern heavy metal will present an earth-shattering show, shortly after their notorious performance at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics, which grabbed the attention of the entire world!

On July 26th, Gojira made history as the first metal band to perform at the Olympics opening ceremony. They performed an extreme metal version of "Ah, Ça Ira!", a traditional song of the French Revolution. However, their place as an elite heavy metal band has been established for many years.

Defying any kind of categorization, the four Frenchmen have managed to create their own characteristic sound! Heavy, yet emotional, they compose dark and overwhelming anthems, rooted in death metal, but also incorporating progressive, technical death metal, thrash, and tribal influences. At the same time, Joe Duplantier's philosophical and environmentally conscious lyrics reflect the band's ecological perspective.

Their lineup remains unchanged, with the brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier, Christian Andreu, and Jean-Michel Labadie, as well as their exceptional skills, which have made them one of the top live acts in the world.

Their first two records, "Terra Incognita" (2001) and "The Link" (2003), established their reputation in the French metal scene, along with their dynamic live shows. "From Mars To Sirius" (2005) was a monster of an album and elevated their status. The equally aggressive "The Way of All Flesh" (2008) led them to their first headlining tour in the U.S. From there, Gojira evolved into the beast we all know today!

"L'Enfant Sauvage" (2012) was fierce, flawlessly executed, and simply epic! The seminal "Magma" (2016), recorded during a period of mourning for the Duplantier brothers, was a triumph—a true phenomenon of modern groove metal. The excellent "Fortitude" (2021), their most recent studio album, is their most successful to date, both in Europe and the USA. An optimistic album, as they themselves describe it, that calls for an ecological awakening in response to current global issues.

July 19th will be a historic day, filled with songs like "Silvera", "Stranded", "The Gift of Guilt", "Amazonia", "Flying Whales", "L'enfant Sauvage", "The Axe", and an explosive live show experience that no one will want to miss!

Tο ReleaseAthens 2025 υποδέχεται τους Gojira, το Σάββατο 19 Ιουλίου, στην Πλατεία Νερού. Μία από τις κορυφαίες μπάντες του σύγχρονου σκληρού ήχου σε ένα show που προβλέπεται ισοπεδωτικό, λίγο καιρό μετά την καταιγιστική εμφάνισή τους στην Τελετή Έναρξης των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων του Παρισιού η οποία δίκαια έστρεψε τα βλέμματα ολόκληρου του πλανήτη πάνω τους!

Στις 26 του περασμένου Ιούλη, οι Gojira έγραψαν ιστορία ως η πρώτη metal μπάντα που έπαιξε σε Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες ερμηνεύοντας το "Ah, Ça Ira!", ένα παραδοσιακό τραγούδι συνδεδεμένο με τη Γαλλική Επανάσταση, πάνω σε ένα μοναδικά εντυπωσιακό σκηνικό. Ωστόσο, η θέση τους στην ελίτ του heavy metal είναι δεδομένη εδώ και πολλά χρόνια. 

Αψηφώντας κάθε περιοριστική κατηγοριοποίηση, οι τέσσερις Γάλλοι κατόρθωσαν να διαμορφώσουν έναν απόλυτα δικό τους χαρακτηριστικό ήχο, heavy και ταυτόχρονα έντονα συναισθηματικό, γράφοντας σκοτεινούς και συντριπτικούς ύμνους, με τις ρίζες τους στο death metal, αλλά και με progressive / technical death metal / thrash / tribal στοιχεία. Παράλληλα, οι φιλοσοφημένοι και με περιβαλλοντολογική συνείδηση στίχοι του Joe Duplantier αποτελούν τον καθρέπτη της οικολογικής αντίληψης της μπάντας. 

Η σύνθεσή τους παραμένει ίδια, από τον πρώτο δίσκο τους έως σήμερα, με τα αδέλφια Joe και Mario Duplantier και τους Christian Andreu και Jean-Michel Labadie, όπως άλλωστε και η εκτελεστική τους δεινότητα που τους έχει καταστήσει ως ένα από τα κορυφαία metal live acts στον κόσμο.

Οι δύο πρώτοι τους δίσκοι, "Terra Incognita" (2001) και "The Link (2003), θεμελίωσαν τη φήμη τους στη γαλλική metal σκηνή, μαζί με τις δυναμικές live εμφανίσεις τους. Το "L'Enfant Sauvage" (2012) υπήρξε σφοδρό, άψογα εκτελεσμένο, απλά επικό!  Το καθοριστικό, "Magma" (2016), ηχογραφημένο σε περίοδο πένθους για τα αδέλφια Duplantier, ήταν ένας θρίαμβος. Ένα αληθινό φαινόμενο του μοντέρνου groove metal. 

Το εξαιρετικό "Fortitude" (2021), το πιο πρόσφατο studio album τους, αποτελεί το πιο επιτυχημένο της έως τώρα δισκογραφίας τους, τόσο την Ευρώπη όσο και τις ΗΠΑ. Ένας φωτεινός δίσκος, όπως λένε οι ίδιοι, που καλεί σε οικολογική αφύπνιση κόντρα σε όσα συμβαίνουν.
