Festival guide 2023: ARTmania (Romania)

ARTmania is a festival that is being held in the Transylvanian town of Sibiu, Romania. The festival is one of the most important musical and cultural events, first organized in 2006 and it has been held every year since.

The biggest thrill for the fans is of course the music of ARTmania – rock and metal bands performing on the stage at the Large Square - Piaţa Mare. Some of the incredible names that have rocked the stage are Nightwish, HIM, Opeth, Amorphis, Anathema, Alcest, Steven Wilson, Lacrimosa, Tiamat, My Dying Bride, Within Temptation, Riverside, Devin Townsend, Lacuna Coil and many more.

The festival also includes various cultural events and gatherings, such as visual art exhibitions, museum exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, poetry reading and all types of workshops. The yearly event in Sibiu has gained popularity promoting the gothic culture and music, different metal styles, punk, alternative and etc.

Since, due to know reasons, there was no festival in 2020 and 2021, this years’ 16-th edition will take place under the concept „Asgard in Transylvania” with an amazing line-up with bands like Porcupine Tree, Wardruna, Emperor, Samael, Pain Of Salvation, Haken, Port Noir, TesseracT, Vulture Industries.

This „creative umbrella” implies that Nordic cultural elements, Transylvanian cultural elements and elements from ARTmania’s visual identity will find their way into the lineup, on the stages’ design and in other festival activities and spaces. They call this project Musical Bridges, and the partners for this endeavour are Inferno Metal Festival and Midgardsblot, two of the most successful events of their genre in Norway.
