AthensRocks is back and here to stay!
The freshest music festival of Athens strikes back. On Monday June 13th, at Athens Olympic Complex, some of the most loved bands in Greece, will meet together for the first time on a festival stage. Dropkick Murphys, Villagers of Ioannina City, The Rumjacks & Fundracar promise an endless music party in the heart of the summer!
Guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, mics, amps, head banging, encore, chorus, lyrics, stage, solos, riffs, photo pits, lights, sweaty band t-shirts, photos, dance until the morning, emotions, banners, raised fists, stage diving, hugs and kisses. Those things and many more, hard to describe with words, compose the unique experience of AthensRocks Festival, that we missed so much during the last couple of years.
Dropkick Murphys, Villagers of Ioannina City, The Rumjacks & Fundracar will give us a unique AthensRocks experience that will leave its mark on our memories for years.
Dropkick Murphys
If there is one band that is always at the top favorites of the Greek fans, with live appearances full of mess and cries of joy, this is none other than Dropkick Murphys! Since 1996, when the band was formed in Massachusetts, its name has become a synonym of Celtic punk, combining Clash and RAMONES on the one hand, and Pogues and Dubliners on the other, who are their main influences.
Dropkick Murphys are coming from the working class, and this is why they always stood by lots of social groups, fighting for their constitutive rights. Ken Casey (bass, voice), who is in charge of the band’s mind, has often been the voice against fascism and neo-Nazism, giving a political tone to some of their songs.
With more than 25 years on the record and concert charts, Dropkick Murphys have established a special bond with their audience as reflected in every live show, becoming one with their large audience in songs such as “I’m Shipping up to Boston”, “Johnny I hardly Knew Ya”, “Rose Tattoo”, “Going Out in Style”, “Famous for Nothing” and many more!
Villagers of Ioannina City
The Villagers of Ioannina City made their first steps in the vanguard of the bubbling Greek scene, giving their generation songs and live shows that defined the sound of their entire generation. Their lyrics and melodies went beyond the musical boundaries and became a slogan and a memory for thousands of their fanatic fans following every step of their career.
The honored pentatonic of Epirus, following the way that “RIZA” showed, an album that was loved by their fans leading to sold out shows in Greece and then in Europe, while “Age of Aquarius” found them mature enough to include their progressive rock influences in their unique sound that hides heavy rock, Black Sabbath, but also the Greek musical tradition. The Villagers of Ioannina City after a wonderful mystical experience that they gave us with last year’s Revival Acoustic Tour managed to make us look forward to their concert return at AthensRocks 2022!
The Rumjacks
A year after their last visit to our country, The Rumjacks return to the lands they loved and were loved by as few bands. With their latest release, “Hestia”, which earned great reviews last year, but also showing their love to our country with “Live in Athens”, they form along with the other bands the ultimate lineup for AthensRocks Festival. The Australians with their uplifting Celtic punk sound, are the most suitable to warm the atmosphere, lifting up AthensRocks in the most dynamic way, while the fans will be looking forward to another live performance of “An Irish Pub Song”!
Fundracar
If you are looking for a Greek band that entices everything in its path, setting up leveling parties on stage, then your mind unconsciously goes to Fundracar!
After all, Fundracar is not “another band”. It is a successful musical sowing, the birthplace of four different musical genres, and it is our pleasure that for so many years it has been based in Greece!
They play reggae with one hand and punk with the other. With one foot they step on rock and with the other on funk. So, they make a three-part musical alloy super-fun by spitting lyrics that you wish you had scrambled!
On Monday, June 13, our calendar and watches will show AthensRocks at Athens Olympic Complex, with a Festival that can’t be missed!

To πιο φρέσκο μουσικό φεστιβάλ της πόλης επιστρέφει τη Δευτέρα 13 Ιουνίου στο ΟΑΚΑ κι έχει για οικοδεσπότες συγκροτήματα που λατρεύει το ελληνικό κοινό και για πρώτη φορά θα συναντηθούν μαζί σε φεστιβαλική σκηνή! Dropkick Murphys, Villagers of Ioannina City, The Rumjacks και Fundracar υπόσχονται ένα ατελείωτο μουσικό πάρτι στην καρδιά του καλοκαιριού!
Κιθάρες, μπάσο, τύμπανα, πλήκτρα, μικρόφωνα, ενισχυτές, head banging, encore, ρεφρέν, στίχοι, σκηνή, solos, riffs, photo pits, φώτα, ιδρωμένα t-shirts με στάμπες συγκροτημάτων, φωτογραφίες, αναμμένοι αναπτήρες, χορός μέχρι τελικής πτώσης, συνθήματα, πανό, γροθιές σηκωμένες στον αέρα, stage diving, αγκαλιές, φιλιά. Αυτά κι άλλα τόσα που είναι δύσκολο να γραφτούν, συνθέτουν το AthensRocks που τόσο μας έλειψε τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια.
Για αυτόν τον λόγο βάλαμε τους Dropkick Murphys, τους Villagers of Ioannina City, τους Τhe Rumjacks, αλλά και τους Fundracar στη θέση αυτών που θα δώσουν το έναυσμα, ώστε να ζήσουμε μια AthensRocks εμπειρία που θα συνοδεύει τις αναμνήσεις μας για χρόνια.
Dropkick Murphys
Αν υπάρχει ένα συγκρότημα που φιγουράρει στην κορυφή των αγαπημένων του ελληνικού κοινού και κάθε του εμφάνιση συνοδεύεται από πανικό και κραυγές χαράς, αυτό δεν είναι άλλο από τους Dropkick Murphys! Από το 1996, όταν και ιδρύθηκε η μπάντα στη Μασαχουσέτη, έγινε συνώνυμο του Celtic punk συνδυάζοντας από τη μία στους Clash και τους RAMONES και από την άλλη στους Pogues και τους Dubliners που αποτελούν βασικές επιρροές τους.
Οι Dropkick Murphys «γεννήθηκαν» από την εργατική τάξη, για αυτό πάντοτε στέκονταν δίπλα στις κοινωνικές ομάδες που βάλλονταν στον αγώνα τους για τη διεκδίκηση στοιχειωδών δικαιωμάτων. Ο Κen Casey (μπάσο, φωνή), ιθύνων νους του συγκροτήματος, άλλωστε έχει γίνει πολλές φορές η φωνή ενάντια στον φασισμό και τον νεοναζισμό, αποδεχόμενος την πολιτική χροιά κάποιων εκ των τραγουδιών τους.
Με περισσότερα από 25 χρόνια στη δισκογραφική και συναυλιακή πιάτσα, οι Dropkick Murphys έχουν δημιουργήσει έναν ξεχωριστό δεσμό με το κοινό τους, όπως αποτυπώνεται στα one of a kind live τους, όταν γίνονται ένα με το πολυπληθές κοινό τους σε τραγούδια όπως το “I’m Shipping Up to Boston”, “Johnny I hardly Knew Ya”, “Rose Tattoo”, “Going Out in Style”, “Famous for Nothing” και πολλά άλλα!
Villagers of Ioannina City
Οι Villagers of Ioannina City μπήκαν από τα πρώτα τους βήματα στην εμπροσθοφυλακή της κοχλάζουσας ελληνικής σκηνής, χαρίζοντας στη γενιά τους τραγούδια και live που όρισαν τον ήχο ολόκληρης της γενιάς τους. Οι στίχοι κι οι μελωδίες τους ξέφυγαν από τα μουσικά όρια κι έγιναν σύνθημα κι ανάμνηση για τους χιλιάδες οπαδούς τους που ακολουθούν φανατικά κάθε τους βήμα και κάθε τους εγχείρημα.
Η τιμημένη πεντατονική της Ηπείρου έδειξε τον δρόμο στο RIZA, έναν δίσκο που αγαπήθηκε όσο λίγοι κι άνοιξε τον χορό των sold out shows στην Ελλάδα κι έπειτα στην Ευρώπη, ενώ το Age of Aquarius τους βρήκε μεστούς κι ώριμους να εντάσσουν τις progressive rock επιρροές τους στο μοναδικό τους ηχόχρωμα που κρύβει το heavy rock, τους Black Sabbath, αλλά και την ελληνική μουσική παράδοση.
Οι Villagers of Ioannina City, μετά από μια υπέροχη μυσταγωγική εμπειρία που μας χάρισαν με το περσινό Revival Acoustic Tour, κατάφεραν να μας κάνουν να ανυπομονούμε και για την ηλεκτρική συναυλιακή επιστροφή τους, η οποία θα έχει ως αποκορύφωμα και σημείο αναφοράς της την εμφάνισή τους στο AthensRocks 2022!
The Rumjacks
Έναν χρόνο μετά την τελευταία τους επίσκεψη στη χώρα μας, οι αγαπημένοι μας The Rumjacks, επιστρέφουν στα εδάφη που αγάπησαν και αγαπήθηκαν όσο λίγες μπάντες. Έχοντας στις αποσκευές τους την τελευταία τους κυκλοφορία, Hestiα, η οποία κέρδισε τις εντυπώσεις την περασμένη χρονιά, αλλά και το Live in Athens, ένα δείγμα της μοναδικής εμπειρίας από τα live τους στη χώρα μας, δημιουργούν μαζί με τα υπόλοιπα συγκροτήματα το απόλυτο lineup για το AthensRocks Festival.
Οι Αυστραλοί με τον ξεσηκωτικό Celtic punk ήχο, είναι οι πλέον κατάλληλοι για να ζεστάνουν την ατμόσφαιρα, ξεσηκώνοντας το AthensRocks με τον πιο δυναμικό τρόπο, τη στιγμή που το κοινό θα αδημονεί για ακόμη μια live εκτέλεση του “An Irish Pub Song”!
Fundracar
Aν ψάχνεις ένα ελληνικό συγκρότημα που συμπαρασύρει τα πάντα στο πέρασμά του, στήνοντας ισοπεδωτικά πάρτι πάνω στη σκηνή, τότε το μυαλό σου ασυναίσθητα πηγαίνει στους Fundracar!
Άλλωστε οι Fundracar δεν είναι “άλλη μια μπάντα”. Είναι μια πετυχημένη μουσική σπορά, γέννημα θρέμμα τεσσάρων διαφορετικών μεταξύ τους μουσικών ειδών, κι είναι χαρά μας που εδώ και τόσα χρόνια έχει για έδρα της την Ελλάδα!
Με το ένα χέρι παίζουν reggae και με το άλλο punk. Με το ένα πόδι πατάνε στη rock και με το άλλο στη funk. Φτιάχνουν λοιπόν ένα τριπαριστό μουσικό κράμα υπέρ-διασκεδαστικό φτύνοντας στίχους που θα ευχόσουν να είχες σκαρώσει εσύ!
Τη Δευτέρα 13 Ιουνίου το ημερολόγιο και τα ρολόγια μας θα δείχνουν AthensRocks στο ΟΑΚΑ και δεν γίνεται να λείψει κανείς!
