For each of the last 7 years we’ve built this alternate world where you can be yourself, carefree and safe. The energy we get from you when you explore and discover what EC has to offer is one of the reasons that drives us to make Electric Castle in the first place. Even now, we relentlessly tried to find a scenario that would allow us to meet again at the Castle. It’s in our nature and we owed it to everyone who’s put their trust in us.
Creating the festival takes a full year of continuous hard work and two months for actually building it. Right now, we were supposed to be in Bontida, building the EC world. However, there is a lot of uncertainty regarding health and safety measures, travel restrictions and other details that need to be planned in advance so we can deliver the expected experience. Even the authorities couldn’t provide us with specific details or plans regarding the festival’s situation. Your health and safety have always been our top priority and, unfortunately, at this point, there is no ideal scenario or bulletproof safe way to hold the festival. With all this in mind and a heavy heart, we decided the safest way to go ahead is to postpone EC8 for 14-18 July, 2021.
Needless to say, this is a major hit and disappointment not only for all fans, but also for the thousands of people involved in making the festival happen. A multi-layered industry made up of production professionals, technicians, artists, architects, vendors, local communities and volunteers will be deeply affected.
So… what now?
First of all, your tickets are safe. All purchased tickets are valid for the new dates, in 2021. If you can’t make it, there will be different options available. We’ll get back to you with all the details in a few days, so please bear with us.
Secondly, we plan to reconfirm all the announced artists for 2021 and start moving things around. We’ll announce details as soon as we have updates.
No worries, we will see each other at the castle again.

În ultimii 7 ani, am construit, cu fiecare ediție, o lume în care putem fi liberi și de care să ne putem bucura cu toții în siguranță. De fiecare dată, energia pe care o simțim în fața scenei și bucuria pe care ne-o transmiteți în timp ce descoperiți tot ce v-am pregătit ne motivează să continuăm. Și anul acesta, până în ultimul moment, am încercat să găsim un scenariu ideal care ne-ar fi putut permite să ne revedem la castel.
Organizarea festivalului înseamnă un an întreg de muncă, incluzând două luni necesare construirii lui. Chiar acum ar fi trebuit să fim la Bonțida pentru a contura lumea EC. Din păcate e prea multă incertitudine cu privire la măsurile de siguranță și sănătate pe care ar trebui să le implementăm, restricțiile de călătorie pentru perioada următoare și alte detalii pe care le plănuim în avans pentru a putea livra experiența mult așteptată. Nici de la autorități nu am primit până acum răspunsuri referitoare la detalii specifice, de planificare sau în legătură cu situația festivalului. Sănătatea și siguranța voastră au fost întotdeauna prioritatea noastră absolută și, din păcate, în acest moment, nu există un scenariu ideal în care festivalul să se desfășoare în deplină siguranță. Având în vedere toate aceste aspecte, am decis să alegem calea cea mai sigură și să amânăm EC8 pentru 14 – 18 iulie 2021.
E o decizie grea care ne afectează pe toți. Atât pe voi, fanii, cât și pe miile de oameni care fac acest festival posibil. De la echipe de producție, tehnicieni, artiști, arhitecți, vendori, voluntari și oameni din comunitatea locală, toți simțim aceeași dezamăgire și știm că vom resimți efectele.
Ce urmează acum?
În primul rând, biletele voastre sunt în siguranță. Toate biletele achiziționate vor fi valabile pentru ediția din 2021. Cei care nu vor putea participa vor avea la dispoziție și alte opțiuni. Vom reveni cu detalii în zilele următoare, iar până atunci vă mulțumim anticipat de răbdare.
În al doilea rând, planul nostru e să reconfirmăm toți artiștii anunțați pentru 2021 și să reorganizăm lucrurile. Vom anunța detalii pe măsură ce avem informații noi.
Ne vom revedea cu siguranță la castel, doar că de data asta va trebui să așteptăm un pic mai mult.

Twenty One Pilots, Foals, The Neighbourhood, and many more will perform at the 2020 edition of Electric Castle, the music festival held on the domain of the Bánffy Castle, near Cluj-Napoca, in western Romania.
American musical duo Twenty One Pilots achieved breakthrough success with the album, Blurryface (2015), which produced the successful singles “Stressed Out” and “Ride”. The album sold 6.5 million copies worldwide and received four platinum certifications.
Foals is considered today one of the best British live acts. Their recent album, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost, made it to the top of British charts this fall.
The Neighbourhood will bring to Electric Castle new material, in a much more experimental style that their hits “Sweater Weather” or “R.I.P. 2 My Youth”.
Also performing at the event will be Fisher, Zhu, Floating Points Live, Rezz, Tycho, Amon Tobin, Alec Benjamin, Purple Disco Machine, Camo & Krooked, High Contrast, Urbandawn, Mc Dynamite and Meute.
For the second consecutive year, Electric Castle will have a section bringing important New Media artists to the Banffy domain. Among the first confirmed names for 2020 are Robert Henke, known for his installations displayed in venues such as Tate Modern Londra, Centre Pompidou or PS-1 New York, James Clar, a researcher of the narrative and conceptual potential of light and technology, and Claire Hentschker, who will bring to Romania her projects exploring the imperfections of the computer-generated visual effects to recreate disappeared places.
Passes for the festival cost RON 499 (almost EUR 105) plus taxes and can be purchased from the festival’s website. They can also be purchased in installments, the organizers of the event have announced.
