Mad Cool Festival is thrilled to announce the first names for its 2024 edition, taking place July 10th – 13th in Villaverde, Madrid, featuring over 100 national and international artists. This first announcement includes huge names, with more set to be revealed soon.
The 2024 edition of Mad Cool will take place across four days, the opening day Wednesday, July 10th will see pop icon and Grammy winner Dua Lipa headline. The chart topping British artist recently released ‘Houdini’, the lead single from her upcoming third studio album. The forthcoming headline performance will be Lipa’s second appearance at Mad Cool. The first day will also feature huge names such as The Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage. Polymath Janelle Monáe will delight festival goers with her fusion of soul, funk, R&B, hip-hop and reggae. The Spanish scene will be represented by Rels B, urban pop and rap that has pushed the boundaries of his project. Also appearing on Wednesday will be the American singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy whilst Jet Vesper will deliver a comforting, and contemporary atmosphere rooted in ’70s funk with their performance. The English band Nothing But Thieves will present their latest album ‘Dead Club City,’ delivering an electrifying performance with frontman Conor Manson’s powerful voice taking center stage. Further highlights on the opening day include, Tom Odell, James Arthur, Kenya Grace, Crawlers, Julieta, Swim School, Carlita, Kid Francescoli, Parra For Cuva, and Claudia León.
Thursday, July 11th, will be headlined by the legendary Seattle band Pearl Jam. Six years since their last performance at Mad Cool, Eddie Vedder returns, bringing anthems like ‘Alive,’ ‘Better Man,’ or ‘Rearviewmirror’ which transcend generations. Sharing the stage with Pearl Jam is Motxila 21 – whose 15 members continue to show that love for music and the spirit of overcoming obstacles can take you anywhere, breaking all boundaries. The Kiszka brothers, better known as Greta Van Fleet, will return to Mad Cool Festival with their stage presence and style inspired by the purest ’70s rock. Larkin Poe will bring blues and raw southern-rooted riffs to the festival. The second day will also include performances by Keane alongside the hypnotic voice and charismatic guitar of Michael Kiwanuka. Another key name on Thursday will be the German artist Paul Kalkbrenner, a unique star who has revolutionized techno and the Berlin scene. Other electronic highlights include Bonobo, a British producer, composer, musician, and DJ hailed as the pioneer of downtempo. A whirlwind of pure adrenaline, the Colombians Bomba Estéreo will bring their fusion of electronic, reggae, cumbia, champeta, rock… to Thursday’s lineup. Thursday will also feature performances by Mando Diao, Sofi Tukker, The Heavy, Black Honey, Kneecap, Blanco White, Merina Gris, Merino, Lawrence, Piem, Cc:Disco!, Adiel, Sugar Free and Lola Bozzano.
Sum 41 will headline Friday, July 12, with a blazing hot live show that will be remembered for years to come. British national treasure Jessie Ware promises a large dose of disco revival with tracks like ‘Say You Love Me’ or ‘Free Yourself.’ On Friday, fans can enjoy American psychedelic soul band Black Pumas returning stronger than ever after a break. Another highly anticipated act on the bill is Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the New Zealand band based in Portland led by Ruban Nielson, bringing their mix of styles and worldclass guitar playing. Mochakk will be at the forefront of the electronic lineup, the globally acclaimed DJ and producer elevating Friday’s energy, sharing the stage with other names like Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine guitarist) and the charismatic The Breeders, one of the key groups defining the explosion of alternative rock in the nineties. This same day will also feature Alvvays, Sleaford Mods, Acid Arab Dj Set, Stay Homas, Gilipojazz, Πl.T., Dj Koze, Jayda G, Danilo Plessow, and Lola Haro. More key names joining Friday’s lineup will be announced soon.
Avril Lavigne returns to Madrid after 20 years, part of her 2024 tour that will undoubtedly mark a milestone in Mad Cool Festival 2024. Alongside the Canadian star Bring Me The Horizon will headline the Saturay of the festival who, after selling out their last tour in Spain, come to Mad Cool 2024 promising a blockbuster live show. The American rock band The Gaslight Anthem will bring a good dose of punk rock energy, presenting their new album ‘History Books.’ British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks will transport audiences with her enveloping and cinematic sound, exploring and giving voice to Gen Z’s feelings. Saturday will also feature Genesis Owusu, a compelling personality exploring beyond R&B, touching on diverse styles like trip-hop, grime, or even classic ballads. The Blessed Madonna and her legendary remixes will be one of the must-see acts at Mad Cool 2024. Ashnikko will deliver one of the most eclectic performances on Saturday, thrilling audiences with her viral hits ‘Stupid’ or ‘Daisy.’ The closing day will also include performances by Nathaniel Rateliff And The Night Sweats, The Warning, Chinchilla, Joel Culpepper, He.She.They Live, Anotr, Axel Boman and Honeyluv.
Mad Cool Festival 2024 will feature four full days of live music performances by Spanish and international bands marking an essential stop on the national and international music festival circuit.
Once again, Mad Cool will be a musical and cultural reference point for both Madrid and Spain.
About Motxila 21
Motxila21 is a music group formed by 15 members with Down Syndrome and 7 volunteers, born out of a love for music and the effort of overcoming challenges. The group was formed in 2005 and has performed over 100 concerts in various cities and festivals, including an international tour with 5 concerts in London. Motxila 21 is an example of talent, creativity, and overcoming obstacles, proving that music is a powerful means to break stereotypes and promote inclusion.

The 2024 edition comes with improvements in the overall attendee experience
After listening to attendees from past editions of Mad Cool and aiming to further enhance the festival’s quality and services, the organization has worked on several setup improvements to offer the best experience. This edition will see a reduction in the number of stages, going from eight to six, as well as a general reduction in public capacity, aiming to improve flows within the festival and reduce schedule conflicts and artist overlaps.
Additionally, Mad Cool will enhance general festival services, with measures such as increasing drinking water stations, the number and distribution of toilets, bar lengths, and bracelet recharge points, as well as creating new relaxation and rest areas, along with more shaded spaces. Moreover, larger screens will be incorporated to make the experience more immersive, and the dining area will be expanded to ensure a more comfortable gastronomic experience at the festival.
