Judas Priest lead the first confirmations for Rock Fest Barcelona 2020

After a very successful sixth edition attended by almost 80.000 rock and heavy metal fans that confirmed it as one of the main events of the European circuit, Rock Fest Barcelona is now offering the first batch of confirmed bands for its seventh edition. A long distance run that will have its next stage on July 2nd-4th 2020 at the usual venue of Parc de Can Zam in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, just next to Barcelona.

Adding to the already confirmed german heavy metal pioneers Accept in its only Spanish show for 2020, a total of eleven new bands are now announced for the festival, a great selection that touches a lot of the genres and sub-genres and rock and heavy metal. Eleven bands that are just a taste of whats to come in a year full of great confirmations for rock fans.

The occasion is good enough to surrender to the power of the mighty Judas Priest, who will celebrate 50 years of heavy metal in one of their only two Spanish shows in 2020. One of the key bands of the genre who made ‘British steel’ an institution in the world. With close to 50 million records sold worldwide and recently nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2020, Judas Priest are among the greatest.

Few rock bands can boast such a complete, long and illustrious career such as Lynyrd Skynyrd’s. After a 56 year run, the band led by guitarist Gary Rossington and singer Johnny Van Zant will be back in Barcelona in what will be one of the only two shows in Spain in 2020. An opportunity that marks their return to the country after 22 years and, on the other hand, the last chance to catch them live. The band will headline the first day of the festival on Thursday July 2nd 2020.

With a career full of unique pieces of music in the history of rock such as “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird”, unquestionable pillars of the genre, Lynyrd Skynyrd have been one of the main band of southern rock as well one of the most influential, one of those that cross over genres and generations. Formed in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida, by the missed Ronnie Van Zant and Rossington himself, Lynyrd Skynyrd rose to worldwide fame in the first half of the seventies with a style that drank from blues and hard rock equally, but with a swagger and attitude that few could match.

With an incredibly prolific career, Lynyrd Skynyrd are one of the last vestiges of an era where rock was as real as the people who played it and lived it.

Rock Fest Barcelona will be the one last chance to see a fundamental band in rock music.

One of the biggest phenomenons of metal in the past 20 years, Swedish band Amon Amarth, will bring the biggest show of their career to Rock Fest Barcelona. In the middle of the “Berserker” tour, the most acclaimed record of their history until now and with a production up to the level of the biggest legends of the genre, Amon Amarth is coming to Can Zam with one of the most spectacular concerts ever at the festival.

Born in the Swedish town of Tumba in 1992 and with melodic death metal as their calling card, the band is formed by the imposing vocalist Johan Hegg, guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg, bass player Ted Lundström and new drummer Jocke Wallgreen. The band has reached the heights of their career with respected magnum opus of the genre such as “Versus the World” (2002), “Fate of Norns” (2004) and “Twilight of the Thunder God” (2008), aside of the most recent “Berserker” released this year.

With a show full of fire, hydraulic platforms, inflatables, vikings, pyro and songs of such stature as “Guardians of Asgaard” or “Pursuit of the Vikings”, Amon Amarth’s show will be one of the most awaited for at the 2020’s edition of the festival.

In the middle of a long farewell tour that also serves as a 50 year anniversary party, British seminal hard rockers UFO are also confirmed for the festival in what will be the last chance to ever listen again to songs such as “Doctor Doctor”, “Rock Bottom” and “Lights Out”. With the classy Phil Mogg at the front and a legacy that goes through several generations, UFO will play at Rock Fest Barcelona the last show in Spain of their long and fruitful history.

Thrash metal fans will welcome Angelus Apatrida once more as they blast their always effective songs on the gigantic double stage. Rage and technique on equal parts will be the main elements of their performance.

There will be some notable first-time bands at the festival, such as the British doom metal titans My Dying Bride, the English rockers Reef and two of the best classic heavy metal bands from nowadays, the Swedish combo Bullet and the American beasts Unleash the Archers.

There will also be some treasures for fans of 80’s hard and heavy. One of the main inspirations for the biggest bands of the genre, Diamond Head, will play the festival for the first time. It will also be the case of British female heavy metal pioneers Rock Goddess, who came back to activity six years ago.

This new batch of confirmations is rounded by the innovative The New Death Cult, who play a mixture of Queens of the Stone Age and Pink Floyd with a very attractive image, and the great emerging band from the french metal scene Disconnected, whose powerful riffs are inspired by some of the best bands in contemporary metal.

Kiss to play one last festival in Spain at Rock Fest Barcelona 2020

The big farewell of Kiss, one of the most iconic and influential bands in rock history, will be one of the main events at the next edition of Rock Fest Barcelona. It is the last festival show ever in Spain for the band led by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. An occasion to bring their biggest and most spectacular staging and show ever in Spain for a night that will go down in history. And they won’t be alone: Saturday 4th of July 2020 will be the day where Judas Priest will celebrate their 50th anniversary, UFO will play their last ever Spanish show and Accept will play their exclusive show in Spain. A night full of legends.

Kiss changed the face of rock and roll when they appeared on the scene in 1973. From their first record and tour in 1974, the band reformulated the standard of what a rock show was meant to be: fire, hydraulic platforms, confetti storms, choreographies and spectacular make up and costumes made Kiss a legend by their own right. All time hits such as “Detroit Rock City”, “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” and the ever necessary “Rock and Roll All Nite” made their career a success and at Rock Fest Barcelona we will be able to live this experience for the last time in a festival setting.

European hard rock fans will have the chance to see Switzerland’s beloved Gotthard for the first time at the festival. With a three-decade spanning career and a history of anthems that is second to none and rose them to stadium level in their own country, Gotthard will play a show full of class and great chorus and melodies.

In the extreme metal category, the festival will count with the kings of technical death metal Nile, whose most recent record “Vile Nilotic Rites” is a testament to the persistence of their dedication to egiptology and brutal riffs. We will also have, for the first time, the Swedish supergroup Bloodbath with Nick Holmes on vocals and joined by a star-studded line up completed by Anders Nyströn, Jonas Renkse and Martin Axenrot, all of them institutions by their own right in metal music. Their latest record, “The Arrow of Satan is Drawn” is the excuse but they will play stuff form their five records. However, one of the most awaited bands at the festival are the black metal project Belzebubs, a cult fictional band that puts together JP Ahonen comics and extreme metal. A surprise and the first ever show of the mysterious band in our country.

The new ways of understanding metal will be represented by Tunisian metal masters Myrath, who are conquering the big leagues with their latest record “Shehill” and a style that drinks a lot from north African influences. The industrial metal of Mind Driller will be also on display, while German hard rock act The New Roses and speed metal masters Evil Invaders add their energy to the bill.

The world’s biggest symphonic metal band, Finland based Nightwish, will be joining Rock Fest Barcelona 2020. The festival, held from July 2nd to July 4th 2020 at Parc de Can Zam in Santa Coloma de Gramenet adds another great name to an already stellar bill.

With a career that starts in 1996 and has its first big peak with the release of 2004’s successful “Once”, Nightwish have brought symphonic metal to a wide audience thanks to hits such as “Nemo”, “Wish I Had an Angel” and “Élan”. With songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and the majestic voice of Floor Jansen at the front, Nightwish will come to Rock Fest Barcelona with a new and highly anticipated new record under their belt. A new record that will be the starting point for another world tour that will stop exclusively at Rock Fest Barcelona as the only Spanish date.

    More bands added
As well as Nightwish, the festival will have Scottish pirates Alestorm on the bill. The band, who had great success on their last Spanish tour, is now back at Rock Fest Barcelona to make a big party out of it.
Also, legendary Japanese metallers Anthem will come to Spain for the first time at Rock Fest Barcelona. One of the most influential japanese bands , whose first record was released in 1985, will show the best of their career spanning four decades of pure heavy metal.

An old friend, Phil Campbell, will be coming to the festival with a special Motörhead concert set, a band that has always been special to us -there is a giant inflatable ‘snaggletooth’ at the festival and our infamous ‘Motörtent’ to pay tribute to Lemmy every year. Now Phil Campbell and its special Motörhead set will make sure that Rock Fest Barcelona keeps alive the legacy of rock and roll’s most tremendous and feared threesome.
American masters of prog metal Symphony X will be also joining the bill, one of the most asked for bands by the audience at the festival. With a 25th anniversary tour underway, the band led by Michael Romeo and Russell Allen will be coming to the festival for the first time ever with a setlist full of classics.
British power metal act Dragonforce will also be coming to the festival again with their unique brand of metal full of melody, speed and imagination. With their new record “Extreme Power Metal” as a sort of declaration of intentions, the band led by guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman will push us to the limit.

    Variety of styles

Aside from Phil Campbell’s rock and roll, Symphony X’s brand of prog and Dragonforce’s power metal, the festival will also keep space for a legendary stoner and heavy metal band such as brits Orange Goblin, also on their first time at Rock Fest Barcelona. Also Insomnium and their melodic death metal will be joining and mesmerizing the audience. The confirmations are completed by Northern Ireland’s Stormzone and the live party that is Celtica, the bagpipin’ rockin’ band that will make Can Zam jump like there is no tomorrow.
